In 1983, Syd Mead was commissioned by the World Sports Fair in Tokyo to create three paintings depicting the future of sporting competition.

The works represent the three colors of the fair's prize winning ribbons:

Gold for Running of the Six DRGXX, Blue for Race Ball, and Red for Tokyo Bay Boat Race.
